What do you do for a living?

By now everyone whose job requires prospecting for clients knows not to answer this question directly. You answer with a value statement (This is a hypnotic language pattern that I'll address at another time).

There are some exceptions to this rule. If what you do is so interesting that even a direct answer generate curiosity-- Sex Therapist, Shark Hunter, for example-- a direct answer is enough to get conversation going. Hypnotherapist/Self Hypnosis Educator is another.

So last night I was at a business reception and was asked,

"What do you do for a living?"

"I help people who are curious about how they can access more of their own inner resources to achieve what's really important to them."

Now, what is it you do?
